I am an independent sage and researcher who, after retiring from a long career as a doctor in the NHS, graduated in Archaeological Sciences from the University of Bradford. Most of my interests have involved local extractive industries, especially coal-mining and brick-making. My other enthusiasms are for glass and the material culture of Iron Age and Roman Britain, for which I admit there is not much call locally.

  1. I loved reading this article. It transported me back to my childhood. I lived on Heaton Road, attended both St Barnabas Schools both old and new. My Grandparents lived in Syke Road, I remember the old Fountain Inn. My Grandpa had an allotment on Heaton Hill where he grew the most delicious vegetables. So I having been reliving such happy memories. Thank you so much.

  2. Your writings on Bradford are really fascinating to read. I note with sadness the demolition of Britannia Mills. Do you have any further information on Christopher Waud and the history of this particular mill? I would be delighted to hear more. Thank you. Simonne
